He always had a smile on his face, a funny story to share, and brought a lot of joy to everyone.

My fondest memory of Kip is when he, my parents, and I spent the day driving his side by side around Houghton Lake & St. Helen, last summer. It was a particularly difficult summer for me, but that was one of the happiest days I had that summer.

I had never driven a side by side before, but Kip let me drive around the trails and even let me drive all the way to the Firehouse in St. Helen. Early on into the ride, I got the side by side stuck over a small ditch. Most people would be annoyed or frustrated, not Kip, he laughed and turned the minor hiccup into a funny photo shoot with my parents.  He was always so kind and loving. Kip hardly drove himself, letting all of us have a turn. He encouraged us to floor it up hills and fly down them. Kip knew all the best spots along the trail to take great pictures of the woods too. He was such a generous and fun trail guide. The four of us had a great time!

Kip spoke a lot about his daughter Melissa that day, about all the adventures he, Melissa, and her friends had recently had on the side by side. I know he loved her and Cole very much.

My parents, Brian and Kathy, everyone in Sandy Oaks, and I will miss Kip dearly. I am truly grateful my parents had Kip as their friend. It is difficult to make new friends as an adult, especially, finding a good, honest, fun-loving person like Kip. You very loved and very missed, Kip. We will never forget you, and I’ll never forget the day we all drove to St. Helen!

Melissa, Cole, and all of Kip’s family thank you for sharing such a wonderful man with all of us. You are all in our thoughts. I pray that you receive lots of love and comfort.

Love,

Katie, Peggy, & Dan Sass

We became friends and on our pass days we would take Melissa and my son Kody with us to gun shops and sporting goods stores. Even when Kip got a job with the Bureau of Prisons and then latter with the state, we would talk every few months. I Just talked to him in May and was going up to the lake to see him this fall. Kip was a good guy and when he or I would call, we would spend an hour or two on the phone laughing about the old days here at work. I will miss talking to him.

Story shared: My Friend http://dutcherfh.frontrunnerpro.com/runtime/165310/runtime.php?SiteId=165310&NavigatorId=777545&ItemId=1926605&op=tributeFamilyStories&viewOpt=dpaneOnly&gid=story1447004 I was one of the lucky ones that got to know Kip as a young adult and we reconnected about 3 years ago. I can close my eyes and see him at the age of 15....Active, handsome, kind, tall for his age but could fill a size 10 shoe.  lol  When I moved away from Michigan we lost touch, but his Mom and sister Vicki was pretty good at writing so I was able to hear about his achievements in life.  Kip was a great young man that grew into a even greater adult.  My life was richer because of him.  I will miss talking to him.  He walks with our Lord now and I pray with all my heart that we will meet again.  God Bless his family during this difficult time.  My life was richer because of the O'Neils.  Sending my love and prayers.

I think back to the last shift we worked together and try to remember what went on that day. In the day to day nonsense that goes on in a Correctional setting, Officer O'Neill," Kip" was great to have around. You could always count on him to "do the job", whatever it was. A conversation with him about his kids and motorcycles always put a smile on his face. A quick talk and a laugh and then back at it. He was quick to ask how my wifes treatment was coming along and made me feel that he was truly interested. I will miss him as will many other co-workers. Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

I loved him like a brother and he treated me like a little sister in every way!!!  He has played about every prank possible on Vicki and I but I think my favorite one is when Vicki and I were all ready to go on a date and he waited and as we were about to go out the door (and anyone who knew us, that took hours)  he chased us and tossed us in the pool!  We were less than pleased at the time but we have laughed so much over the years as we relived that moment.   As we have grown Kip never let our bond fade, he would call, stop by randomly, always invited me to family gatherings and it was always a wonderful to catch up and hear  Kip stories and  laugh!  I loved his laugh!   He would tell me all the things his kids were doing and he was always so proud.  Of course almost every visit he was driving a new toy of some kind and had to show me and tell me all about it.

I pray he is Jumping off a roof pretending he is riding a motocross bike into a pool in Heaven!  He had some great form when he did that stunt even though Mom O'Neill did not think so! LOL

He was an amazing man, and I am so blessed to have been a part of his life for so many years.  Till we meet again sweets!  I love you!  Thanks for loving me and thanks to your entire family for allowing me to be the "adopted" Sister/ Daughter!

Debbie
